Green IT Globe
Green IT Globe (GIG)
Founded in 2009
GIG was founded by Kristof De Spiegeleer and teamed up with co-founder and CEO, Willem Hendrickx, a prominent technology and telecoms executive, most recently President of Alcatel EMEA. GIG has over 80 employees and offices in Ghent, Dubai and Cairo.
Building a Green, Democratic and Safe Internet
Today, 90% of the cloud is powered by Amazon, Google and Microsoft on large hyperscale datacenters costing approximately >$1 billion each. Demand for IT capacity is far outstripping the available cloud capacity due to new applications like Big Data, Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence. The existing hyperscale cloud architecture can not cope with this outsize demand as the requirements for land, power and funding are just too great. In the next decade, the global internet infrastructure needs another 4,000 hyperscale datacenters ($1bn+ each) to meet demand which would cost $ trillions - an impossible amount of money.
Product Design to Deliver IT as Energy
Product Design After 15 Years of Development: GIG’s performance and cost advantages are due primarily to the following key factors:
- GIG racks are located in the same place as users (so-called “edge” networks) which places content, communication and capacity close to users, while re-using existing and available datacenter space
- GIG owns its full integrated software stack - and therefore does not pay away substantial IP margin to multiple software vendors, such as VMware, Microsoft, IBM, HP and many others;
- GIG racks can be rolled out modularly to meet capacity requirements as they arise - the production cycle is about 1 month from order to install so GIG can deliver invest against pre-agreed orders
GIG has formed Joint Ventures and is covering following geographies:
- Middle East
- South Africa
- Sub Saharan Africa
- USA and Canada
